Here are two Lucianne commentators worth reading in response to the Journolist story:
"The difference between the parties is this: Republicans think
Democrats are misguided... Democrats think Republicans are EVIL."
I forget who said that [Dennis Prager did], but here in liberal Connecticut I run across this attitude everyday.
Short
illustration. I know two women who have been friends for decades. One
is knee-jerk liberal (and married to a multimillionaire banker) and the
other is conservative working woman.
During the last election the
liberal announced that anyone voting for McCain would have to be a
racist. The conservative replied "I'm planning to vote for McCain, does
that make me a racist?"
The liberal replied "Yes, it does." The
conservative left the house in tears. Decades of friendship lost due to
the willful blindness of liberals.

What the Republicans don't believe and therefore cannot
understand is that the left hates them. It's not a matter of not
agreeing or having a difference of opinion -- the left hates
Republicans. Hatred is a key symptom of fanaticism.
The use to
which demagogues put hatred is described with incredible precision by
Eric Hoffer in his wonderful book, "The True Believer." Demagogues
always instill hatred among their followers because hatred acts as a
unifier. It's a cheap unifier because hatred appeals not to intellect
but rather raw emotions. Hoffer cautions that hatred exacts a huge price
because it causes the hater to lose those very values that the hater
claims to espouse and advance. Its uncanny watching Oberman, O'Donnell,
Matthew's -- any of those fanatical left-wing journalists -- go off
full-tilt crazy in their absolute hatred of the person they are talking
about. Its no wonder that Chas. Krauthammer coined a phrase, "Bush
Derangement Syndrome" to describe the fanatical hatred by the left of
George Bush. But Derangement Syndrome (DS) tranfers easily to anyone --
hence, it is easy for a hater to have, say, Palin DS, Barnes DS ...
whatever.
Any candidate that goes up against a democrat needs to
understand this most ugly and destructive force. It's been said that
politics is not beanbag. Yes, but having it devolve into a bucket of
blood has not enhanced the process. Republicans better be ready -- it's
going to get a lot worse, I fear.
